Irwin E. Ludwig

Mass of the Christian Burial for Irwin Ludwig will be on Monday, November 21st, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake with burial at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery in Breda, Iowa.

Visitation will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake on Sunday, November 13th, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. with rosary at 3:00 p.m. and vigil service at 7:00 p.m.

Irwin E. Ludwig, age 93, of Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.

Irwin was born on July 9, 1912, at Breda, Iowa, the son of Michael and Mary (Underberg) Ludwig. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended Breda Country School through the eighth grade. He helped his father on the farm where he grew up, three miles east of Breda. After his marriage to Violet Dierenfeld on June 19, 1934, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda, they farmed near Glidden before returning to the home place. They were blessed with four children: Marilyn, Allan, Joan, and Sharon. Violet passed away on July 26, 1965. Irwin retired from farming in 1967.

On November 23, 1968, Irwin married Mary Faber. They made their home in Early. They were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Irwin enjoyed hunting and trap shooting and was quite a sharp shooter, earning many trophies. In his later years he enjoyed bowling and golfing. His family was always very important to him. He looked forward to their visits and the holidays. Irwin and Mary moved to Twilight Acres Nursing Home in August of this year.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; son Allan Ludwig and wife Mary Ann of Carroll, IA; daughters: Marilyn Muhlbauer and husband Dave of Vail, IA, Joan Maciupa and husband James of Montgomery, AL, and Sharon Faber and husband Gary of Wall Lake, IA; step-sons: Richard Faber of Fort Dodge, IA, and Jerry Faber and wife Marie of Clear Lake, IA; step-daughter Pam Ryan and husband David of Provo, UT; 35 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include his adopted sister, Dorothy Howe of Charles City, IA; sister-in-law Regina Ludwig of Carroll, IA; and many extended family members.

Irwin was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Violet; brother Ray; sisters: Julie Ricke and husband Vince, Esther Luchtel and husband Clarence; brothers-in-law: Clyde Howe, Mike Dierenfeld and wife Luella, and Werner Dierenfeld and wife Opal; stepson Donald Faber; granddaughter Mary Ludwig in infancy; and great-granddaughter Heather Kloewer.
