Edwin Fredrick Wilhelm Hinrichs, age 90, of Lytton, Iowa, passed away
on Saturday, July 09, 2005, at Park View Care Center in Sac City.
Ed was born on July 4, 1915, the son of Henry J. and Emma (Roseke)
Hinrichs. He was baptized July 18, 1915, and confirmed July 7, 1929,
at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton, by Pastor Dauleke.
He attended country school and Lytton High School through the ninth
grade until he was needed on the farm.
On February 8, 1939, Ed was united in marriage to Leona Behrens at
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Palmer, Iowa. To this union three
children were born: Everett, Donna, and Colleen.
Ed continued to farm. They made their home on the family farm, then
moved northeast of Lytton for six years and then back to their family
farm south of Lytton until failing health caused Ed to move to Park
View Care Center. He enjoyed the farm life and watching his children
and grandchildren’s many activities. He loved to spend time
with friends and neighbors, visiting, and playing cards. He had fond
memories of the time he won the state hand corn-picking contest while
he was just a freshman in high school in 1931.
As an active member of Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church, he served
as a Deacon, Trustee, on the Cemetery Committee, and enjoyed helping
with many special church projects.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Leona Hinrichs; his
son Everett and wife Joann Hinrichs of Manson, IA, and daughters:
Donna and husband Dr. Gene Michel of Cherokee, IA, and Colleen and
husband LaVerne Arndt of Sac City. Other survivors include his six
grandchildren: Wayne (Bobbi) Hinrichs, Steve (Charlene) Hinrichs,
Doug Michel, Troy Arndt, Robin (Mark) Tropransky, and Josh (Lourie)
Hinrichs; 11 great-grandchildren: Parker, Devin, Tate, Sawyer, Amanda,
Whitney, Jeremy, Josh, Bryce, Davis, and Anna; and a sister Lucille
Helmbrecht of Lytton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Fred, Walter,
and Russell; an infant sister Rose; brother-in-law: Earl Helmbrecht;
sister-in-law Marie Hinrichs Jackson; and nephew Robert Helmbrecht.
