Bernard M. VanNess Bernard M. VanNess, age 91, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa, following a sudden illness. Bernard VanNess was born May 10, 1913 in Montana the son of Bernard and Margaret VanNess. The family lived in Hudson, Wisconsin and Bernard attended school through the 11th grade. On April 4, 1949 he was united in marriage to Edna (Wiberg) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. To this union two daughters were born, Nancy and Kathy. While living in Minneapolis, Bernard was a homebuilder. He later owned and operated Sioux Bowl in Sioux City, Iowa from 1960 to 1968 moving to Wall Lake, Iowa in the mid 1980’s. He loved woodworking and built many grandfathers clocks. He was constantly buying tools and had a very extensive collection. Bernie was a storyteller and told many stories about his work, but he especially loved to remember about his hunting and fishing excursions. He was opinionated and one could be sure you knew how he felt about something, yet he had a kind heart and would do anything he could for anyone if they’d ask and he was always “fixing” something for someone. “Bernie” enjoyed excellent health right up to the day he passed away. Hard work was his motto. His two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Tom Lake of Wall Lake, Iowa and Kathy and Marty Reeves of New Orleans, Louisiana, survive him. Other survivors include his eight grandchildren, Kyle, Kristi, Kelly Katherine, Kurt and Kevin Lake and Michele and Michael Reeves. also his brother Robert VanNess of Hudson, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by is parents, his wife Edna on September 22, 1995, two sisters, Leona Johnson and Mary VanNess and one brother, Lawrence VanNess GRAVESIDE SERVICES |
