Beth L. Lange
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, March 28th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Beth L. Lange, second daughter of four, was born to Charles and Bertha (Pingrey) Thomas on September 5, 1919, in a farmhouse in Star Community, Coon Rapids, Iowa. She attended the local country schools and then obtained an Elementary Teachers Certificate from Simpson College. After teaching kindergarten in Sac City, she returned to college earning a B.S. and M.S. in Education from Drake University. She returned to teaching kindergarten in Sac City, where she met and married Elmer Lange on June 16, 1946 at Omaha, Nebraska. Over the years, besides raising a family, she and her husband were very involved in politics moving to Des Moines, IA, Washington, D.C., and Lincoln, NE, as Elmer’s career dictated. During this time, Beth was involved with the political fund raising events, but also had time to enjoy the plays, theaters and museums that she and her friends attended. After Elmer retired from public life, they chose to return to Sac City where they had always kept their home. Beth then became involved in many local activities including Tuesday Bridge Club and Book Club, church activities, and hosting her annual Christmas coffee parties. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City, member of the Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority at Simpson and Chapter DK, PEO, Lincoln, NE. Very quietly, she and Elmer donated to numerous church and community needs. Beth was noted for baking meals and cookies for families during times of medical or personal loss. In the late 90’s, Beth purchased a retreat home in Woodland Park, CO, which she enjoyed visiting for several years before health issues prevented her from traveling. Beth was always a lady, polite and caring. She will be fondly remembered for her classic style; most especially, for always attending church in a hat. Beth passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Loring Care Center in Sac City. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Hess and her husband Harris of Coon Rapids, IA; her two daughters, Martha J. Lange of Guffey, CO, and Mary Beth Williams and husband Robert of Garden City, KS; two grandchildren: Nathan L Williams of Denver, CO, and Colin R. Williams and his wife Airianna of Colorado Springs, CO; and numerous nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; two sisters: Helen Galloway and Marian Thomas. |
