Vy Brotherson

Vynola M. Brotherson, age 74, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at her home in Lake View following a lengthy illness. She was born on February 11, 1930, in Sac City, the daughter of John Andrew and Violet V. (Thau) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church in Breda where she was a lifetime member and served as church treasurer for six years, and PW Moderator.

Vy attended grade school in Early and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1947. She continued her education at a beauty school in Des Moines, IA, graduating in 1948. She was a beautician for fifty years, first in Wall Lake and then in Sac City. Vy also worked for three years as an aide at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.

On December 5, 1953, Vynola was united in marriage to Kenneth D. Brotherson at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies included bowling, sewing, and using the computer. She enjoyed spending time with her cats Sam and Beefie.

Vy was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary presently serving as trustee, and has held all the other offices as well.

Survivors include her husband Kenneth Brotherson; brother John Peterson of Lake View, IA; and a very special niece, Cindy Segebart and her husband Byron and family of Schaller, IA; also many other nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Marvin and Alan (Buck) Peterson, and a sister Virginia, Mrs. Robert Pilloud.

Funeral services for Vy will be held Friday, September 24th, 10:30 a.m., at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church in Breda. Reverend Donald Gibson will officiate and Marilyn Hundling will be the organist. The flower arrangements will be taken care of by Darlene Becker and Norma Peters. The men and women of the Wheatland Presbyterian Church will be the honorary pallbearers. The pallbearers include the following: Howard Brotherson, Keith Brotherson, Kurt Peterson, Rodney Grodahl, Richard Graber, and David Schwechel. Burial will be at the Wheatland Cemetery in Breda under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is Thursday, September 23rd, from 2:00-8:00 pm at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
