Robert Pontious

Robert Henry Pontious, age 74, of Riverside, CA, formerly of Sac City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The son of Henry Francis and Wilma Irene (Green) Pontious, Robert was born March 10, 1930, in Sac City, Iowa. He graduated from Sac City High School in 1948 and graduated from Drake University. He continued his education at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. and received his Masters Degree from a college in Pullman, Washington.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on August 19, 1952, at Omaha, NE, and honorably discharged on August 18, 1954, from Huntsville, AL, serving during the Korean War. He earned the rank of Sergeant (T) and worked as a clerk typist.

Robert worked as a psychologist at a group home in Riverside, CA, until his retirement in September of 2003. His hobbies included walking, reading, and taking care of his dog.

Survivors include his brother, Frank Pontious and his wife Phyllis of Sac City, IA; step mother, Cora Pontious of Sac City, IA; three step children: Chris of Washington state, Cindy, and Rob, both of Washington, D.C.

His parents, Henry and Wilma Pontious, and a sister, Marva Jean Pontious, preceded Robert in death.

Memorial services for Robert will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. The Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City will be in charge of arrangements.
