Mike Kettering

Michael Dale Kettering, age 58, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2004, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. He was born July 17, 1946, in Sac City, Iowa, the son of E. P. and Zoe (Zielman) Kettering.

Mike attended Lake View schools, graduating from Lake View-Auburn High School in 1964. He went on to continue his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, graduating in 1968.

On September 25, 1971, he was united in marriage to Lois Rickert in Mapleton, Iowa. To this union one son, Lance, was born.

Mike joined the offices of Kettering Insurance in Lake View following graduation from college and remained in the business until the time of his death.

He loved his acreage and country gardening and was well known for the sharing of sweet corn with family and friends. Mike had been active in many community affairs and events and was very fond of coaching youth baseball.

Mike is survived by his wife, Lois; son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Denise Kettering of Springfield, Missouri; Bonnie Kettering of Lake View; his brother, Steve Kettering also of Lake View; and his sister and her husband, June and Douglas Manary of Mount Sterling, Iowa. Other survivors included his nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Mike will be Monday, September 6th, 10:30 am, at Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View, with Reverend Rick Johnson officiating. The eulogy will be read by Marsha Phillips and Marilyn Hundling will prvide special music. Honorary pallbearers are the following: Jim Stodden, Larry Nelson, Larry Biittner, Blaine Blessington, Larry Hauser, Randy Aschinger, Jack Dreessen, Gordon Cochran, Don Phillips, Lowell Peters, Darrell Meyer, Dennis Meyer, Craig Ruetter, Eric Meyer, Jim Smith, and Eugene Poklitar (1946-2002). Pallbearers include: Colin McCullough, Bill Matthias, Norman Phillips, Bob Lungren, Dan Southard, Steve Tjaden, Jeff Frank, and Noel Cook. Burial will be at the Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is Sunday, September 5th, 2:00 to 4:00 pm, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
