Lois Redenbaugh

Lois Margaret Redenbaugh, age 97, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away at her home in Lake View, on Thursday, September 9, 2004.

Lois Margaret Wetzstein was born on April 27, 1907, at Early, Iowa, the daughter of Charles C. and Lora (Strong) Wetzstein. She lived in Early and moved with her family to Lake View in 1913. Lois graduated from Lake View High School in 1925 and continued her education at the University of Iowa, the University of Minnesota, and graduated from Buena Vista College in 1930. She taught English and drama for three years at Linn Grove, Iowa.

On January 23, 1933, Lois and William H. Redenbaugh were united in marriage in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. She was the longest living member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View and a member of the Women’s Fellowship.

She was a loving wife and enjoyed cooking for her husband and friends and collecting cookbooks and salt and pepper shakers. Her love of books, reading, the theater and opera, was demonstrated by her membership for 60 plus years on the Lake View Library Board, a Member of the National Arts & Letters, the Lake View Fine Arts Club, Contract Club, and directing plays for the Lake View Winter Carnival. She was a member of the original board of trustees of the Lake View Public Library beginning in 1939. She also enjoyed swimming, boating, and fishing. Lois had special memories of her world cruise and visited many countries around the world.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Frank (Pam) Wetzstein of Bellevue, IA; Gail (Larry) Conner of Solon, IA; Marilyn (Gordon) Cavanaugh of West Des Moines, IA; Bonnie Cole of Meza, AZ; Harold (Jan) Redenbaugh; and Joyce Redenbaugh Radhke all of Storm Lake, IA; her beloved friend and caregiver, Peggy Domino of Lake View; and her extended family members.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Lora Wetzstein; husband W. H. Redenbaugh; sister Helen Wicker; and brother Harland Wetzstein.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 13th, 10:30 am, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View, with Reverend Jerry Schultz officiating. Bill Kolbe will sing “The Lord’s Prayer” accompanied by J. Andy Meredith. Honorary pallbearers include: Mr. & Mrs. Herb Onstot, Dr. & Mrs. Mark Durst, Mr. & Mrs. Steve Tjaden, and Mr. & Mrs. Harlan Strong. Casketbearers will be the following: Scott Onstot, Steve Tjaden, Gary Wicker, Larry Conner, Landon Conner, and David Cavanaugh. Burial will be at the Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-6:00 pm, Sunday at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
