Henry J. Schwier Henry J. Schwier, age 87, of Battle Creek, Iowa, died Sunday, May 2, 2004 at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa. Memorial Services will be Friday, May 7, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Burial will be at a later date. The Farber & Otteman Funeral Homes are in charge of the arrangements. Henry was born to Fred and Mary Schwier on August 21, 1916 on a farm south of Ida Grove, Iowa. Henry was very young when his family moved to the farm northwest of Battle Creek, where he lived until he retired in 1980. He and his wife then moved into their present home in Battle Creek. While growing up on the family farm, Henry attended a rural country school through the 8th grade, after which he helped his father on the family farm. Henry was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. On September 5, 1939, Henry was united in marriage to Verda Strawn at the Methodist parsonage in Sioux City, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children: Gerald Dean, Gary Lee and Carol Jane. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emma Schwier; a son, Gerald Dean; and two grandchildren: Jackie Wunschel and Carrie Wunschel Frank, of Valentine, NE. Henry is survived by his wife, Verda; son, Gary Schwier of Battle Creek; and daughter Carol and her husband, Larry Wunschel of Valentine, NE; grandsons: Chad Schwier of California; Aaron and wife Bonnie Schwier of Nevada; Casey Schwier of Iowa; five great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. |
