Frances Frerichs

Frances Frerichs, age 93, of Lake City, Iowa, formerly of Lake View, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Lake City.

Frances was born February 16, 1911, rural Breda, Iowa, the daughter of Harm and Sophia C. (Ammann) Poen. She attended rural country school near Carnarvon through the eighth grade. She was a member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church of Carnarvon.

On December 30, 1930, Frances was united in marriage at her parents home, rural Carnarvon, to John Aden Frerichs. They were blessed with a son John David, and three daughters, Joyce, Sophia, and Bonita. Frances was a homemaker and helped her husband with the farm work. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In 1963 they retired and moved from the farm to Lake View. In the early 1980’s they moved to Lake City. John passed away in December 26, 1993, and Frances moved to Shady Oaks to live in 1997.

Frances enjoyed sewing, was an avid reader, and loved to write. Her mind was sharp as a tack right to the end. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children: John David Frerichs and his wife Stephanie of Indianola, IA, Sophia Weitzel and her husband Merlin of Fonda, IA, and Bonita Hart and her husband Alan of Lake City, IA; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her brother Herman Poen of Illinois; and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; daughter Joyce; a sister Henrietta Fredrichs; and granddaughter Kathryn Ann Weitzel.

Funeral services for Frances will be Thursday, June 3, 2004, 10:30 a.m., at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Carnarvon, Iowa, with CLP Carl Lee officiating. Special music by Chris Frisbie, soloist, along with congregation singing accompanied by Sue Mein. Pallbearers include: Keith Weitzel, Michael Hart, Matthew Frerichs, LeRoy Frerichs, Thomas Lennon, and Jeff Fredrichs. Interment will be at the Carnarvon Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is Wednesday, June 2, 2004, from 4:00 – 8:00, with family present from 6:00 – 8:00, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
