Doris Wise
Visitation is Friday, December 10th, 4:00-8:00 pm at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Doris A. A. Wise, age 92, of Early, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at the Embassy Rehab and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Doris Arlene Anna Moe was born on March 16, 1912, in Laurens, Iowa the daughter of Olai and Anna O. (Olson) Moe. She attended Laurens schools graduating from Laurens High School. Following graduation she went on to continue her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. On June 18, 1939 Doris was united in marriage to Lynn T. Wise at the family home in Laurens. To this union three sons were born, Lynn G., Robert and Dennis. Prior to her marriage, Doris taught elementary grade school for eight years, teaching in the communities of Britt, Sulphur Springs and Bradgate. Following her marriage to Lynn in 1939 the couple operated and lived in a service station at the junction of highways 71 and 7 until Lynn was drafted into the service. After he returned home the couple moved to Early where they were very active with church and town activities. Doris was a member of the Early Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Women, serving in various offices. She taught Sunday school for many years, was Chairman of the Christian Education Committee, served as a member of the Session (Ruling Elder). Other memberships included the Early Women’s Club being chairman of her department, Poetry and Literature, at different times. She was a member of the board of trustees of the Early Public Library and served in all its offices as well as being its Librarian for about two years. She and Lynn were both members of the Order of Eastern Star and Doris served as Worthy Matron. Doris enjoyed writing poetry. In 1997, one of her accomplishments was publishing “Poems by Doris”. Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Lynn G. and Marcy Wise of Sandpoint, Idaho and Robert and Mary Lee Wise of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and her daughter-in-law, Tessa Wise of Ixworth, Suffolk, England. Other survivors include her seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two sisters, Alice Neville of Aurora, Colorado and Helen Neville of Roseville, California. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lynn T. Wise, on November 29, 1992: her son, Dennis Gene: and four brothers, Orion, Elmer, Lloyd and Albert Moe. |
