Dolores Veit

Dolores Veit, age 76, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2004, at her home in Odebolt. Dolores Mae Holliday was born on October 11, 1927, in Bagley, Iowa, the daughter of Val and Pearl (Cornish) Holliday. As a child she was a member of the Methodist faith and later baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt. She was an active member of St. Martin’s Ladies Society, Alter Society, and church choir.

She attended Odebolt public school and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1945. She was an active member of the Girl Scouts, Rainbow Girls, band member, and member of high school choir, singing at contests. She continued her education at National Business Training College in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1946.

Dolores was united in marriage to Paul Veit on November 25, 1948, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt. To this union five children were born: Lance, Valerie, Rebecca, Barbara, and Stephanie.

Dolores loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She provided a loving and comfortable home for her husband, Paul and their five children. To those who knew and loved her she will always be remembered as the best cook in Sac County. Her special memories would be of the numerous fishing trips to Canada with her husband, Paul. Dolores liked going to Canada because the walleyes were bigger there. She also enjoyed camping with her family, swimming, and her little dog Sammy.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; her son Lance and wife Christina Veit; her daughters: Valerie and husband Paul Nepper, Rebecca and husband Dudley Ullrich, Barbara Veit, and Stephanie and husband Dr. Stephen Cooke; twelve grandchildren: Nicole (Jason) Smith, Brandon and Aaron (Jessica) Nepper, Jennifer (Sean) Rath, Shawna (Jason) Chiasson, Adam, Levi, and Sara Ullrich, Matthew, and Andrew Cooke, Rachael and Jacob Veit; three great-grandchildren: Paige Nepper, Logan Nepper, and Caaden Rath.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather A. M. Sanders.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 31st, 10:30 am, at the St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt with Father John McGuirk officiating. Special music will be provided by Joey Hoefling, soloist, Mick Menage, saxophone, Richard Duffy, will play the flute, and Kay Bloyer, organist. Honorary pallbearers will include: Bev and Larry Beckman, Alice and Robert Hemphill, Thelma and Darrell Schroeder, Shirley Prochnow, Verna Mae Schwaller, and Mary and William Hall. Casket bearers will be the following: Brandon Nepper, Aaron Nepper, Adam Ullrich, Levi Ullrich, Zane Diersen, and Duane Veit. Interment will be at the St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery in Odebolt under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is Monday, August 30th, 4:00 – 8:00 pm, with the rosary at 7:00 and Vigil Service at 7:30.
