Dorothy Ann Marie Stone

Dorothy Anna Marie (Spoo) Stone, age 89, of Sac City, Iowa, formerly of Lytton, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
Dorothy was born on February 5, 1915, at Estherville, IA, the daughter of Chris and Martha (Meyer) Spoo. She was baptized August 29, 1915, and confirmed June 9, 1929, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville. She attended Emmett County schools.

On December 4, 1937, Dorothy was married to Truman Henry Stone at Estherville, to this union six children were born. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. After the children where grown, she worked in the kitchen at several local Café’s, and last was a nurse’s aide for nine years at Park View Manor, moving back to Sac City in November of 1983 after Truman passed away. She enjoyed doing embroidery and in her younger years tending her vegetable garden and flower garden. But most beloved to Dorothy was her family. She treasured every moment she was able to spend with them. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very precious and dear to her.

She is survived by five children: Virginia and Jon Minnmann, Jack and Joan Stone, Earl and Jackie Stone all of Sac City, and Byron “Butch” and Nancy Stone of Wall Lake, IA, Beverly and Mark Lake of Tucumcari, NM; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Agnes Borlaug of Sac City, and Lucille (Francis) Origer of Rochester, MN; two brothers: Elmer Spoo of Estherville; and Henry Spoo of Brandon, SD; brother-in-law Leonard Beaver of St. Croix Falls, WI; sister-in-law Louise Spoo of Bangor, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Chris and Martha Spoo; infant sister Elizabeth Spoo; husband Truman Stone; son Dan Lee Stone; infant great-grandson Harrison Morris; brother Lester Spoo; and sister Helen Beaver.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 20th, 1:30 pm, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City, with Reverend Roger Carlisle officiating, and Margaret Schramm organist. Honorary pallbearers include: Heather Brzezinsky, Jane Morris, Wendy Ulrich, Molly Hartung, and Kate Kies. Active pallbearers will be the following: Scott Stone, Jeff Stone, Shawn Stone, Mark Minnmann, Chad Lake, and Joshua Lake. Graveside services will be at 4:00 pm at Rosehill Cemetery in Rockwell City with Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Friday, November 19th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
