Dorothy E. Sleight

Dorothy E. Sleight, age 84, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2004, at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center. Dorothy E. Paulson was born on February 9, 1920, in Stockholm Township, Boyer, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Nellie (Wulf) Paulson. She was baptized in the Baptist Church and after her marriage joined the Presbyterian Church of Odebolt. She attended country school and Odebolt High School.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Lyle Sleight on December 29, 1951, in Dakota City, Nebraska. To this union four children were born: Robert, Linda, Roger and Rex.

In her earlier years, Dorothy helped local farm families in their homes. She was a familiar face in the Odebolt area cafes for many years where she served as waitress.

Dorothy also enjoyed crossword puzzles, collecting coffee cups, reading cookbooks, and watching game shows on television. She loved her family and treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Robert Sleight and Janena of Denison, IA, Linda and her husband Gary Schau of Charter Oak, IA, Roger and his wife Linda Sleight of Odebolt, IA, and Rex Sleight also of Odebolt; two grandsons: Chad Sleight of Odebolt, IA, and Bret Sleight of Lincoln, NE, and extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lyle on June 21, 1984; brothers: Loyal, Wesley, and Glen as an infant; her sister and brother-in-law: Ardene and Vern Bettin; and a niece Diane Luft.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2004, 10:30 am, at the Presbyterian Church in Odebolt with Reverend Charles Bulger officiating, and Barb Votrobeck, organist. Betty Raasch, Carol Carlson, Phyllis Hoefling, and Margie Loger will take care of the flower arrangements. Honorary pallbearers include: P. Dale Gronemeyer, Dick Cordes, Ronald Schau, and Jack Bensley. Casket bearers will be the following: Chad Sleight, Russell Paulsen, Bruce Raasch, Bill Carlson, Steve Loger, and Tom Paulson. Burial will be at the Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is Tuesday, August 24th, 4:00 – 8:00 pm, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.
