Darrell Meyer

A memorial service for Darrell R. Meyer will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 4, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, Iowa. Family visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View, Iowa.

Darrell R. Meyer, age 55, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2004, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN, after a struggle with cancer.

Darrell was born October 4, 1948, in Carroll, Iowa, and was raised in Lake View. He served as Chief of Police in Lake View before beginning a career as a truck driver. He settled in the Twin Cities, MN, and with a partner started Twin Continental Transport Corp. He later worked for Fitzsimmon’s Trucking in Waseca, MN. In 1991, Darrell fell in love with the north woods of Minnesota, and along with partners, owned and operated Lawrence Lake Liquors, a rural tavern in Bovey, MN. In the years before his death, Darrell returned to Iowa and opened a café in Pocahontas before returning to the open road while driving truck for SMX of Fort Dodge, IA. He continued to travel and enjoy our nation until a few months before his death.

Darrell is survived by two brothers: Dennis D. (Sandy) Meyer and David H. Meyer of Lake View; sons: Jeremy D. Meyer (Jillian) of Spring Lake, MN, and Joshua P. Gripentrog of Newport Beach, CA; and daughter Christina B. Gripentrog of Rochester, MN. He will also be missed by two granddaughters: Jaden and Jenna Meyer and the mothers of his children, Marilyn Vrban (Meyer) and Janet Gripentrog.

His parents Henry R. and Ruth A. (Belt) Meyer preceded him in death.
