Dean Hall

Dean McClellan Hall of Lake View, Iowa, was born November 7, 1939, at Iowa City, the son of Clifford M. Hall and Wanda Irene (Storm) Hall. He grew up on farms near Derby and Columbia attending rural schools. He attended Chariton High School with the class of 1959.

On May 12, 1958, he was married to Marilyn Pettinger at Princeton, MO. Dean was a member of the Lake View United Church of Christ where he was baptized in June 1975. He served on the board of elders.

Dean worked at a sale barn, a gas station, cordage company, Maytag, and hog farm before beginning his career with the Iowa Conservation Commission later D.N.R. He was at Red Haw-Chariton; Stone Park-Sioux City; Lake of Three Fires-Bedford; McBride-Solon, and Black Hawk-Lake View, where he retired in 1998 after 35 years as an attendant and park ranger.

Dean enjoyed woodworking, reading westerns, flower gardening, and camping out west. Special memories were elk hunting in Colorado, and vacations to visit Lori in Florida. He was a former member of Spring Lake Country Club, Charter member of the Lake View Lions Club, and belonged to the Lake View Community Club.

Dean passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004, at home of respiratory failure after a short illness at the age of 64. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marilyn; sons: Bob Hall of Rolfe, Jim Hall and wife Jo of Grand Junction; daughter, Lori and husband Brian Auen of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren: Kari (Bill) Stewart of Bagley, Robbie Hall of Rolfe, Julie Hall of Woodward, Amanda Hall of Grand Junction, Layla (Ryan) Rysavy of Scranton, Jacob Hall of Grand Junction and Josh and Alex Auen of Tampa, FL; seven great-grandsons also survive: Aaron, Zach, Anthony, Nathan, Lucas, Garrett, and Tyler. Other survivors include his mother, Wanda Hall; sisters: Wilma (Ronnie) Shives, and Anna (Tom) Smith, all of Knoxville; brothers-in-law: Gerald Pettinger of Russell, IA, Dr. Tom (Sue) Pettinger of Benson, AZ, and Dr. Nick (Susanne) Pettinger of Indiana; many nieces; nephews; uncles; aunts; and cousins survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford, and his in-laws: Robert and Erville Pettinger.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 28th, 10:30 am, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View. Rev. Jerry Schultz will officiate and Sue Mein will accompany Bill Kolbe, soloist. Melva Case and Shirley Heim will take care of the flower arrangements. Honorary pallbearers are Gene Benson and Frank Kraft. Pallbearers include the following: Darwin Roth, Dan Bruscher, Larry Bundt, Eric Haakenson, Les Heim, and Denny Blessington. Burial will be at the Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View, Iowa, with Farber & Otteman in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Tuesday, July 27th, 2:00-8:00 pm at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
