Betty Weitzel
Betty L. Schafer was born on May 31, 1929, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon and Mamie Grace (Meier) Schafer. She lived in Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1946. On November 23, 1947, Betty was married to Wilbur A. Weitzel in Arcadia. After their marriage they moved to Sac City. To this union five children were born: John, Suzanne, Beth Ann, Jeffrey, and Stacy. Betty was a loving homemaker and mother. She enjoyed sewing, doll making, and crafts, but especially enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. In 1989 she started working in adult care giving. She was an active member of the Free Methodist Church, taught Sunday school and Bible School, until it closed in the mid 80’s. She then became an active member of the United Methodist Church and the U.M.W. in Sac City. Survivors include her husband Wilbur of Sac City; two sons John Weitzel and his wife Jann of St. Peter, MO, and Jeffrey Weitzel of Sac City; her two daughters: Suzanne Petersen of Sioux City, IA, and Stacy Weitzel of Sac City; five grandchildren: Jamie Dale Weitzel, Melissa Jean Weitzel, Sarah Anne Weitzel, Lauren Elise Weitzel, and Aaron Lee Petersen; a brother Robert Schafer and his wife Suzanne of Altoona, IA; two sisters: Marilyn Denich Wilson and her husband Larry of Tebbetts, MO, and Pamela Kelly and her husband Darrell of Council Bluffs, IA; extended family and many friends. Her parents and a daughter Beth Ann preceded Betty in death. A memorial service for Betty is planned for Saturday, March 27th, 10:30 am, at the United Methodist Church in Sac City with Reverend Dean McPherson officiating and Mary Townsend as organist. Honorary pallbearers include her grandchildren: Jamie Weitzel, Melissa Weitzel, Sarah Weitzel, Lauren Weitzel, and Aaron Petersen. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Sac City under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, Friday, March 26th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. |
