Boyd Waller

Maurice Boyd Waller, age 92, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2004, at Park View Care Center in Sac City.

Boyd was born February 10, 1912, in Sac City, the son of Charles Bertrom and Lena Elma (Baichtal) Waller. He attended Sac City grade school and high school graduating in 1931. He was baptized October 19, 1934, at the First Christian Church in Sac City, where he remained a lifetime member.

On June 14, 1934, Boyd and Arline Elizabeth Wilcox were united in marriage in Sac City. To this union two sons were born: Larry and Gordon. They continued to make their home in Sac City. Boyd started working at the Sac Sun while he was in high school and worked there until 1964 when he purchased Johnson Studio and renamed it Waller Studio. He sold the studio in 1976 and semi retired.

Boyd enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and traveling. He always went each year to visit Larry and family in Tucson, AZ. He especially enjoyed his coffee group. Boyd was a 50-year member of the Sac City Fire Department, member of Occidental Masonic Lodge of Sac City, ABU BEKR Shrine Temple of Sioux City, and the Sac City Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Arline Elizabeth Waller; his son Gordon Boyd Waller and his wife Sonya of Fort Dodge, IA; daughter-in-law, Carol Waller of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren: Darcie Howard of Tucson, AZ; Mike (Triny) Waller of Fort Dodge, IA; Troy (Michelle) Waller of Fort Dodge, IA; Janelle (Mark) Becker of Kingsland, GA; four great-grandchildren: Brandon, Sydney, Kylie, and Quinn; and extended family members.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Stuart and Dean Waller; sisters Ardis Parkinson and Charlaine Wolter; and son, Larry Duane Waller, Feb. 11, 1998.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 24th, 2:00 p.m., at the First Christian Church in Sac City, with Reverend Sharla Hulsey officiating. Joyce Irwin, Steve Pullen, and Marilyn Phillips will provide special music. Pallbearers include the following: John Montag, Larry Birt, Harold Peyton, Jack Phillips, Dale Duncan, and Herb Mahler. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 23rd, 5:00-7:00 pm, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
