Alice R. Mauer
Alice Roberta Sleight was born March 7, 1914, at Odebolt, Iowa, to Robert H. and Grace (Nellist) Sleight. She attended rural and public schools and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1931. On February 18, 1933, she was united in marriage to John (Jack) Mauer of Sac City. To this union were born two children: Gary of Lake Crystal, MN, and Nancy Larson of Johnston, IA. Alice joined the First Christian Church of Sac City in 1952. She was active in Sunday school, C.W.F. and served as a deaconess. She worked at the Coast-to-Coast store for 11 years; she also worked at Casey’s, the bakery, Gambles, Public Library, courthouse and the outreach center. Survivors include her son, Gary Mauer and his wife Hazel of Lake Crystal, MN, her daughter Nancy Larson and her husband Al of Johnston, IA; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Ruby Nelson of Sac City, IA, and Dorothy Sleight of Odebolt, IA; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack, and her brother Lyle Sleight. Funeral services will be Friday, May 7, 2004, 10:30 a.m., at the First Christian Church in Sac City with Reverend Sharla Hulsey officiating. Frank Pontious will provide special music accompanied by Joyce Irwin. Pallbearers include Gary Mauer, Jr., Chad Larson, Roger Sleight, Jim Mason, Harold Peyton, and Kenneth Stoelting. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
