Wynona A. Rohde

Wynona A. Rohde, age 79, of Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2003, at St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa.

Wynona was born November 3, 1924, in Breda, Iowa, the daughter of Juergen “Jerry” G. and Gertrude A. (Steinkamp) Bruns. She was baptized and confirmed in Breda.

Wynona lived with her family in the Breda and Wall Lake areas attending the Herring country school near Breda and graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1942.

On April 20, 1953, she was united in marriage to Lester Rohde at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, IA. To this union three children were born, Renee, Ric and Joni.

Wynona was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she served as a member of the St. Joseph’s Guild.

She was a wonderful homemaker and mother and worked as manager of the Wall Lake Country Store until her retirement in 1982. She will be greatly missed as the “Christmas Chef” at the Kidman Tree Farm.

Her hobbies and interests included dancing, golf and especially spending time with her grandchildren. A very special memory was sharing a hole-in-one with her son at a golf course in Florida, on the same day, in the same round.

Survivors include her husband, Lester, son, Ric Rohde and his wife Cindy of North Port , Florida, two daughters, Renee A. Kidman and her husband Mike of Polk City and Joni M. Snyder of West Des Moines and her four grandchildren Seth and Evan Rohde and Alexander and Jacob Snyder. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ardelle Bruns of Spirit Lake.

Wynona was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Jerry Bruns and her two brothers, Ardell Bruns and Wallace Bruns.

Funeral service for Wynona will be Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, with Father John McGuirk officiating. Music will be provided by the St. Joseph’s Choir with Sue Mein at the organ. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, December 16, 2003, 4:00-8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00-8:00, prayer vigil at 7:30, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake.
