Theodore “Ted” Smidt

Funeral services for Theodore “Ted” Smidt, age 94, of Lake View, Iowa, will be held Thursday, September 4, 2003, 10:00 a.m., at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Lake View, Rev. James Travis officiating. Music will be provided by Congregational Singing, with Jim Stock as organist. Taking care of the flowers will be Gert Drost and Jan Stock. Pallbearers include: Wesley Drost, Kary Obman, Steve Wilson, Johnny H. Everts, Richard Baskerville, and Bud Johansen. Final Resting place is at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lytton, Iowa.

Visitation is 4:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, September 3, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home, Lake View.

Theodore “Ted” Smidt, age 94, of Lake View, IA, passed away Monday, September 1, 2003, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home, Wall Lake, Iowa. He was born December 20, 1908, on the family farm, Viola Township, Sac County, Iowa, the son of F. Henry and Reaka (Krenzien) Smidt. He attended Coon Valley Country School through the 8th grade.

His faith was established in the American Lutheran Church, Lytton, Iowa, where he was baptized and confirmed March 12, 1936. He was united in marriage to Mary Schwartz on July 15, 1936 also at the American Lutheran Church in Lytton. They had three children: Donna, Wayne, and Ronald.

His enjoyment was found in fishing, dancing, and playing cards with friends and family. He especially enjoyed his farm, family, and his dogs. He never really retired from farming, always helping on the farm in any way he could. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View, Iowa.

Ted is survived by his daughter Donna (Rowen) Weinzetl and her husband Donald of Fort Dodge, IA; two sons: Wayne Theodore Smidt and his wife Donna of Lake View, IA, and Ronald Lewis Smidt and his wife Judy of Des Moines, IA; 9 grandchildren: Andrea Smidt Partin, Aaron Wayne Smidt, Alissa Smidt Strelow, Brian, Jeffrey, and Michael Rowen, and Suzanne Rowen Beem, Amy Smidt, and Amanda Smidt Rehberg; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Lilly Helmbrecht and Bernadine Jettre; and extended family and friends.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Smidt; brothers Gerd and Nick; sisters: Gertie Peters and Jennie Warrington; and son-in-law Ronald Rowen.
