Ruth Lucille Von Ehwegen

Ruth Lucille Von Ehwegen, age 86, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2003, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Ruth Lucille Philips was born on February 17, 1917, in Sac City, the daughter of Henry E. and Fannie (Slama) Philips. She was a life long resident of Sac City, attending Sac Elementary and Sac City High School, graduating in 1936.

On April 27, 1946, Ruth and Orville L. Von Ehwegen were united in marriage in Wall Lake. They had one daughter, Patricia.

Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sac City, serving as deacon and a member of the women’s society.

She worked with her husband for many years and was co-owner of Orv’s Appliance Store in Sac City until her retirement in 1982. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, traveling, and baking pies. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor.

Survivors include her husband Orville; and her daughter Patricia Smitherman and her husband Jerry of Houston, Texas.

Her parents; and two sisters: Ethel Herrold and Elsie Mae Tuttle preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Ruth will be held Friday, December, 19, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Sac City, with Pastor David Schwechel officiating. Special music will be provided by Frank Pontious, soloist, and Congregational Singing, with Phyllis Pontious as organist. Honorary pallbearers include: Mark Gray, Jerry Frahm, LeRoy Nelson, and Ivan Olsen. Pallbearers include: Gary Judd, Donald Von Ehwegen, Duane Von Ehwegen, Steve Beach, Jim Wirtjes, and Dwayne Sageser. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Sac City.
