Robert L. Miller
Visitation is 4:00 – 8:00 pm Monday at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home, Odebolt. Robert L. Miller, age 61, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away on September 19, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa, following a lengthy illness. Robert was born on December 14, 1941, the son of Leo and Irene (Dinges) Miller, in Odebolt. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Martin’s Catholic Church and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1959. LaDonna Gehring and Bob were united in marriage on December 29, 1962. Bob served in the US Army from 1962-65 during the Vietnam era, serving in the Army Security Agency, as Specialist 5th Class. He was awarded Marksmanship Honors. Robert ran the newspaper and printing business and farmed, retiring in May of 1998. He was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church and served on the Board of Directors. He was involved with community affairs: serving on the Odebolt Rotary Club, Mayor pro-tem of Odebolt, City Council Member, Odebolt Jaycees, Odebolt Fire Department, Odebolt Centennial Committee, and member of the Iowa Press Association where he also served as President and held many other offices. Bob had special memories of time spent with family and friends at home, at work, and on vacations, enjoying snowmobiling, hunting, trapping and fishing. He was always a hard worker and strived to do the best for his family. All the years following the deterioration of his health and his having to give up doing the many things he loved, he never once complained. He always accepted life as it was dealt and took pride in any of his family’s accomplishments. Bob is survived by his wife LaDonna; his son Steven Robert of Odebolt; daughter Staci Leigh and her husband Michael Bartling of Schaller, IA; his mother Irene Miller of Odebolt; brothers: John (Judy) Miller of Cushing, IA, and James (Clara) Miller of Sioux Falls, SD; 3 grandchildren: Dereck Meyer, and Lindsey and Dillon Miller of Denison, IA; brother-in-law Delayne (Karen) Gehring of Madera, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his father Leo and sister LaDonna Costley. |
