Mathilda “Tillie” Anna Werkmeister

Mathilda “Tillie” Anna Werkmeister, age 86, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2003, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.

Mathilda Anna Stoelk was born on November 29, 1916, five miles south of Arcadia, the daughter of Hugo J. and Anna B. (Kies) Stoelk. At the age of one and a half years old they moved five miles northwest of Arcadia. She was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Arcadia and confirmed at Wheatland Presbyterian Church west of Breda. She received her education in a country school near Arcadia. On March 2, 1937, Tillie was united in marriage to Orie Werkmeister at the Wheatland Manse. They were blessed with three children: Leo, Ken, and Sue Ellen. She became a member of the Lutheran Church in June 1937, at Wall Lake, by the elders of the church.

Tillie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She worked outside the home at the Sac City Motel, Park View Nursing Home, babysat, and wallpapered. She liked to stay busy with her embroidery, quilting, crocheting, and knitting potholders, which she gave to everyone.

Survivors include her children: Leo (Alice) Werkmeister of Lake View, IA, Ken (Linda) Werkmeister of Sac City, IA, and Sue Ellen (Les) Lange of St. Paul, MN; seven grandchildren: Teri Meyer of Lake View, Traci (John) Hall of Omaha, NE, Tami Werkmeister of Lake View, Kim (Wes) Drost of Wall Lake, Kay (Neil) Pickhinke of Early, Kelly Lange and Raymond of St. Paul, MN, Kevin Lange and Jenny of Winona, MN, eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Orie Werkmeister October 29, 1993; sister Irene Osterhalt; brother Lawrence Stoelk; and three grandchildren: Keith, Wendi, and Kent Werkmeister.

Service for Mathilda “Tillie” Werkmeister is Tuesday, October 21, 2003, at 10:30 am, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City with Reverend Mark Selby officiating. Music will be provided by congregational singing with Karen Neitzke playing the organ. Pallbearers include Greg Stoelk, Mark Stoelk, Ewing Miller, Eugene Schwanz, Louis Hinners, and Robert J. Sampers. Burial will we at the Wall Lake Cemetery. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home, Sac City, will be in charge of arrangements.

Friends may call at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, October 20.
