Lois M. Roose
Lois was born in her parents farm home in Boyer Valley Township, Sac County, Iowa on May 6, 1908, the daughter of Lorenz H. and Rose V. (Blass) Hansen. Her family moved to a farm three miles north of Sac City in Jackson Township when she was a young girl and this is where she grew to womanhood. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Church in Sac City. After her graduation from Sac City High School in 1925, she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school at the Jackson Township #1 country school until her marriage to Walter Roose on October 27, 1928. This union was blessed with four children, Gene, Janet, Margaret, and Elaine. Lois was a devoted and loving helpmate and mother. Lois and Walter operated a bee keeping business and spent their entire married life in Sac City. She loved keeping in touch with extended family, gardening, traveling, reading, and was a member of several card clubs. She especially loved having her children and grandchildren around her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter, on July 12, 1987; son Gene; two grandsons: Todd Roose and Cameron Henrich; son-in-law, Clarence Engel; four brothers and their spouses: Howard, Carl, Everett, and Ferd Hansen. Survivors include her daughters: Janet Engel of Early, Margaret Nunez of Sac City, and M. Elaine Cook and her husband Carlton of Horicon, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews and extended family and many friends. She will be missed by all. Funeral services for Lois Roose was Saturday, December 6, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, with Rev. Dean McPherson officiating. Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City. |
