Hazel M. Bruns
Hazel M. Bugge was born on August 25, 1916, at Odebolt, IA, the daughter of Fredrick and Katherine (Stock) Bugge. She lived in Odebolt, moving to Lake View in 1924, graduating from Lake View High School in 1935. In September of 1938 Hazel was united in marriage to Paul H. Gerdes. They had one son Gene. After Paul passed away in 1966, Hazel married John Bruns in 1971. He passed away in 1983. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View where she was confirmed June 26, 1932. Hazel was active in the Ladies Aid and a member of the alter guild. Hazel was a loving wife and mother. She worked at a defense plant, grocery store, National Oats, and 14 years at the Public Library in Lake View, retiring in 1979. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and visiting with friends, watching birds and playing cards. She belonged to several card clubs. Survivors include: her son Gene (Anne) Gerdes of Lake View, IA; two step sons: Dale (Nancy) Bruns and Dennis (Karen) Bruns all of Fonda, IA; two grandchildren: Stacie and Kelli Gerdes; 5 step grandchildren: Aaron, Matthew, Daniel, David (Angie), Marla Beth (Bryan); 2 step-great grandchildren: McKayla and Dylon Bruns; a brother Elmer (Norma) Bugge of Lake View; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother Raymond Bugge; and her two husbands Paul Gerdes in 1966 and John Bruns in 1983. Services for Hazel Bruns will be Monday, October 13, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Lake View, Iowa. Pastor James Travis will be officiating, with congregational singing, Jim Stock organist. The flower committee consists of Bonnie Peters and Susie Petersen. Pallbearers include: Dale Bruns, Dennis Bruns, Jerry Bugge, Raymond Freese, Lester Peters, and Darrell Brinker. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery, Wall Lake, Iowa. |
