Frances M. Allen
Frances Merlene Patterson was born on June 22, 1933, at Glidden, IA, the daughter of Fred M. and Leora M. (Trafford) Patterson. She graduated from Glidden High School in 1951. On December 10, 1953, Frances was united in marriage to Dwaine E. Allen at Lake City, Iowa. They were blessed with three sons: Dennis, Mark and Edward. They lived in Lake City, Rockwell City, Lohrville, and moved to Sac City in the early 60’s. Frances worked as a printer for the Reminder in Rockwell City, a printer for Nobles Manufacturing in Sac City until they closed, worked for Newell B.V. County Journal, and in the service department of Buena Vista College from 1984-1995, retiring on May 20, 1995. She continued to work for Head Start in Sac City. Frances was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City. She enjoyed being active with her sons Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, and especially enjoyed fishing, camping, and square dancing. Dwaine and Frances were members of Stormy Water Rollers for over 20 years. Survivors include her son Dennis Allen of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her brothers: Kenneth (Linda) Patterson of Albuquerque, NM, Robert (Linda) Patterson of Grand Prairie, TX, and Doyle (Rosemary) Patterson of Lubbock, TX; sister-in-law Kathy Patterson of Janesville, WI, extended family and many friends. She will be missed by her many Head Start children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dwaine on March 18, 2003; two sons: Mark and Edward; and a brother Merlin Patterson. Service for Frances M. Allen is Saturday, November 8, 2003, 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City, Reverend B. J. Ukena officiating. Music provided by Bonnie Richards, organist, along with congregational singing. Flower committee includes Bernette Austin and Jill Austin. Pallbearers are: Jake Allen, Bill Tasler, Al Campbell, Jim Pontious, Randy Smith, and Chuck Titus. Final resting place will be at the Lake City Cemetery, Lake City, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, November 7, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. |
