Service for Evelyn Dettman, age 85, of Sac City, formerly of Lytton, is Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church, Lytton, Iowa, with Pastor Wayne Pfannkuch officiating. Music provided by Rachel and Renee Ausborn, duet, with Deb Ausborn accompanist, and congregational singing with Lorene Hinrichs, organist. Pallbearers include: Chris Ausborn, Darold Matter, Aaron Helmus, Leroy Meyer, Dennis Dettmann, and Harlan Meyer, with burial at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Lytton.

Evelyn Dettman, age 85, of Sac City, formerly of Lytton, IA, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2003, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Evelyn was born on May 2, 1918, near Lytton, IA, in Williams Township, the daughter of Criss and Anna (Rohlfing) Meyer. She was baptized on May 19, 1918, and confirmed on March 20, 1932, at St. John Lutheran Church, Lytton, IA. She attended country school in Williams Township and graduated Lytton Community School in 1936.
On January 29, 1937, Vernie Dettman and Evelyn were united in marriage at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton. They farmed in the Lytton area and had two children: Shirley and Darrell. In 1970 Vernie and Evelyn moved to Texas spending seven years there. They later retired to Tucson, AZ, following Vernie’s death in 1979, Evelyn spent the summers back in Iowa in the Lytton community. In October of 2002 she moved to Oak Terrace in Sac City.

Evelyn was a member of Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church of Lytton. She was a homemaker, and helped her husband with the farm work. She enjoyed flowers, embroidery, fancy work, and spending time with her great nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her two nephews: Jim (Carolyn) Ausborn of Sandy, UT, and Ron (Deb) Ausborn of Lytton, IA; great nieces; great nephews; and a sister-in-law Emma Dettman of Lake City, IA.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernie, January 11, 1979; daughter Shirley; son Darrell; and a sister Gladys Ausborn.
