Donald Nuetzman

Donald Eugene Nuetzman, age 68, of Story City, Iowa, formerly of Wall Lake, passed away on November 11, 2003, at Israel Family Hospice House, Ames, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Donald was born on May 27, 1935, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Leroy and Alvina (Dettmann) Nuetzman. He lived in rural Wall Lake and attended the Odebolt High School, graduating in 1953.

On July 21, 1957, Don and Colleen Weifenbach were united in marriage in Odebolt, at the Trinity Lutheran Church. They were the parents of four children: Cathy, Dennis, Deann, and Christy. Don served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-58, serving one year in Africa.

He was baptized July 14, 1935, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake and confirmed on June 3, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. His hobbies included: fishing, following all sports activities, and was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Don was a farmer, and worked as a security officer at Pella Corporation in Story City, Iowa, until his retirement in February 2003.

Survivors include his children: Cathy (Steve) Droz of Parnell, IA, Dennis (Anita) Nuetzman of Roland, IA, Deann (Jim) Kellar of Callender, IA, and Christy (Joe) O’Leary of Iowa City, IA; and his 14 grandchildren: Christopher, Erica, and Brendan Droz of Parnell, IA, David, Patrick, and Erin Nuetzman of Roland, IA, Zachary, Jessica, and Cody Kellar of Callender, IA, Matthew, Sarah, and Emily O’Leary, of Iowa City, IA, and Charles and Stuart O’Leary of North Liberty, IA. Other survivors include: his two brothers: Jack (Carol) Nuetzman, and Jim (Nancy) Nuetzman, both of Wall Lake, IA; and a sister Rosalie Nuetzman of Sac City, IA; extended family; and many friends.

His parents Leroy and Alvina Nuetzman preceded him in death.

Service for Donald E. Nuetzman is Saturday, November 15, 2003, 10:30 a.m. at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home, Wall Lake, IA, with Rev. Steve Schwartz officiating. Rolan Erickson will be the organist, with congregational singing, and a duet by Sue and Steve Nuetzman. Pallbears include: Joe O’Leary, Christopher Droz, Jim Kellar, Brendan Droz, Steve Droz, and David Nuetzman. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery with full military graveside rites provided by the Wall Lake American Legion Chalon Post. No. 262.

Visitation will be Friday, November 14, 2003, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake.
