Charles C. “Bud” Raine

Charles C. “Bud” Raine, age 80, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2003, at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, IA.

Bud was born on December 27, 1922, in Harvey, North Dakota, the son of John N. and Grace (Firth) Raine. He attended grade school in Harvey, and Wall Lake Country School, graduating from Sac City High School in 1942, and continued his education at plumbing school.

He joined the United States Navy serving as an Electrician’s Mate Third Class, on May 8, 1944, and was honorably discharged May 21, 1946. He served aboard the NTC Farrgut, Idaho, USNOB Adak, Alaska, and USN Fueling Station, San Bay, Alaska, spending two years in the Aleutian Islands.

When he returned home Bud started his plumbing career in Sac City and later started his own business in Lake View, Raine Plumbing & Heating & Air Conditioning.

On July 6, 1968, Bud and Lillian E. Koster were united in marriage at St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha, NE.

He enjoyed having coffee with his friends. Bud was a member of the Lake View American Legion Eilert-Auen Post No. 133 and V.F.W. Post No. 590 of Sac City.

Bud is survived by his wife Lillian E. Raine; step-son Gary Koster and his wife Jayne of Carroll, IA; step daughter Diane Summerfield and her husband Carl of Palestine, TX; step-grandchildren: Jeff and Dawn Koster of Carroll, IA, Ross and Dr. Nancy Koster of Papillion, NE, and Kerrie Summerfield of Austin, TX; four step-great-grandchildren: Mariah, Evan, Emily, and Lindsey Koster; his brothers: Rex Raine and his wife Marilyn of Fort Dodge, and Richard Raine of Lake View; extended family and many friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service is Saturday, December 13, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, at 10:30 a.m., with Father John McGuirk officiating. Music is provided by St. Joseph’s Choir with Sue Mein at the organ. Pallbearers include: Scott Kilstrom, Larry Raine, Dean Raine, Jeff Koster, Ross Koster, and William “Bill” Leners. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery with flag presentation by the Lake View American Legion Eilert-Auen Post. No. 133.

Visitation is Friday, December 12, 2003, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30.
