Cecilia “Ceal” Hauser

Cecilia “Ceal” Genevieve Hauser, age 91, of West Des Moines and formerly of Wall Lake passed away Monday, December 8, 2003, of congestive heart failure at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Ceal moved to the Des Moines area in 2001 and became a resident of Fountain West Health Care in June 2003.

Cecilia was born April 17, 1912, in Breda, Iowa the daughter of Anton and Mary (Derner) Bachman. Ceal graduated from St. Bernard’s Catholic School in 1930 and received her Registered Nurses Degree from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in 1932. She worked as a private duty nurse in the Breda, Mt. Carmel, and the Carroll area, prior to her marriage to Laurence Hauser on January 10, 1940. She loved farming with her husband in the Fonda, Wall Lake, and Odebolt areas. They retired in 1975 and moved into Wall Lake. Ceal’s hobbies included cooking, gardening, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. She faithfully attended daily mass and the rosary was a special comfort to her. One of her very special memories was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Laurence on May 1, 1990; six brothers: Pete, Tony, Frank, George, Joe, and Paul Bachman; and two sisters: Anna Neppl and Mayme Bachman.

Cecilia will be greatly missed by two daughters: Joyce (Jon) Schneider and Bette (Jim) McGonigle both of Urbandale; son, Dean (Joann) Hauser of Chandler, AZ; six grandchildren: Jodi (John) Schrage and Steve Gilson both of Des Moines, Kris Hauser of St. Louis, MO, Dane (Jennifer) Hauser of Phoenix, AZ, Jennifer McGonigle of St. Paul, MN, and Carrie (Brent) Graunke of Rochester, MN; two step granddaughters: Joni (Steve) Norman and Jan (Danny) O’Connor both of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law, Grace Hauser. You are loved by many. Thank you for your love and memories.

Funeral service is Thursday, December 11, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, IA, with Father John McGuirk officiating. St. Joseph’s Choir will be accompanied by Sue Mein at the organ. Pallbearers include: Steve Gilson, Dane Hauser, John Schrage, Brent Graunke, Howard Bachman, and Marcus Neppl. Final resting place will be at Wall Lake Cemetery, Wall Lake, Iowa.

Visitation is Wednesday, December 10, 2003, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake. Vigil service is at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.
