Carolyn Siemer was born on July 3, 1913 at Arion, Iowa to Herman and Gertrude (Losch) Siemer. She was baptized in the Catholic faith at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Carolyn spent her childhood living with her parents, first in the Arion and Dow City area, then moving to Denison. She attended St. Rose of Lima parochial school for 8 years in Denison. She was a member of and attended St. Martin’s Church in Odebolt after moving there in later years.

On July 14, 1966, Carolyn was united in marriage to Everett Fertig at Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple lived on a farm near Odebolt after their marriage. While on the farm, Carolyn and Everett enjoyed their neighborhood birthday club and took special pleasure in their Sunday drives together. She liked raising chickens and baby calves, and enjoyed gardening. In 1992, the couple moved into town at Odebolt from their farm home.

Carolyn loved her family and spent her life caring for them. She cherished any time she could spend together with her loved ones, but it was especially meaningful for her to have her family gathered together during the holidays. Carolyn was a very good cook who loved to cook, so she took great joy in preparing food for her family. As a doting grandmother, she especially liked to make special treats for her grandchildren. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed playing cards. She was loved very much and will be missed every day.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Carol and husband Ronald Lahr of Odebolt; one daughter-in-law Esther Miller of Spirit Lake; one brother Robert and wife Mardella Siemer of Omaha, NE; one sister Ann Groth of Idaho; sisters-in-law Marlene Fertig of Odebolt and Ruth Fertig of Rochester, MN, and Helen Hoaglund of Arthur; grandchildren Shawn and husband Jim Alexander of Omaha, Ronald J. and wife Teresa Lahr of Persia, Scott and wife Cora of Norwalk, Todd and wife Laurie of Ankeny, Nicholas Lahr of London, England, Dawn and husband Jeff Bonsall of Council Bluffs; great-grandchildren Trista Lahr, Megan Lahr and Everett Lahr; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Everett Fertig; one son Donald Miller; brothers Frank Siemer, Raymond Siemer and Joe Siemer; and sisters Agneta Jepsen, Eleanor Mattson and Bernadine Landgraf.
